Most technical book authors face a double-whammy:
- Unlike most authors, they are not professional writers
- In fact, they’re professionals in some other field, and successful professionals (otherwise they wouldn’t be writing a book!)
That means technical book writers come to the field fresh, with already limited availability to navigate the journey. But it is worth going there. Writing a technical book has been perhaps the most remarkable move of my career. Let me be your guide.
This service is for you if you’d like advice along any step of your technical book journey:
- You’re interested in doing one, but have no idea where to start
- You know where to begin, but are feeling overwhelmed by logistics and processes
- You’d like accountability to stay on schedule and/or to make the most of your launch
What this includes
Over 3-6 months you will get the following:
- Eight 60-minute coaching and consulting calls. I can serve as a sounding board for whatever’s on your mind, or review up to 20 pages of a manuscript if you have it
- Manuscript review. I will review up to 150 pages of your manuscript. As a technical reviewer of several technical books and reports, I know what publishers and readers are looking for. If you’re not there yet to provide a manuscript, I can of course review outlines or similar content.
- Two fifteen-minute inspiration calls. Your “get out of writing jail” cards. My goal is to be there for you within a business day for a pep talk or to otherwise unblock you.
- Worksheets, templates and related resources. These will be individualized for your leg of the journey. I want to get you the resources and support you need so you can focus on the writing.
Schedule
If you want more time between sessions, we can meet about once a month. Or I’m happy to set up a more compact, structured schedule. The whole process should be no longer than six months so you keep the momentum.
What will we cover?
Depends on what you need:
- Developing a topic and outline
- Scoping and making contact with publishers
- Evaluating the publisher vs self-published routes
- Planning your writing schedule
- Developing the table of contents and body of the work
- Marketing your product
Let me help you take that authority in tech and become an author.
