This is day 6 of a road trip I am taking from Portland, OR to Cleveland, OH. Read the full series here.
Today took us from Beloit, WI, on the Illinois border, back home to Cleveland.
The biggest downside of this trip was timing. We wanted to stick around for the RNC in case things got hairy (thankfully, they didn’t), but leaving after the dust settled presumably meant missing my mother’s birthday.
So it was by good grace and gracefully high speed limits that we indeed did return before the candles were blown out.
Hello, Illinois.
When meeting with Oz du Soleil in Portland, we asked what motivated him to move there from Chicago.
He said it was just too hectic in Chicago, and the Pacific Northwest lifestyle was more to his liking.
Driving through the menacing Chicago skyline after several days out west, I can see what he means. It wasn’t nearly rush hour when we crawled through the city. No thanks! Please get me home to provincial Ohio.
Getting closer….
The final countdown…
Mission accomplished.
Back in Parma, OH. Where else could you be inundated with Ukrainian flags and Polish festivals? Not in Oregon or Montana, for as wonderful as they are.
Back to reality….
