Our friend John Michaloudis from MyExcelOnline has started something of an Excel holiday tradition with an annual “top Excel tips & tricks” episode on his podcast of the same name.
I was pleased to be asked to contribute this year, and for my selection I chose what I called an often overlooked feature of Excel: the status bar. It’s the gray bar way at the bottom of your workbook:
Hover over some cells and you’ll immediately start to learn about your data. How cool is that?
It gets cooler.
Turns out, there are options to include even more statistics in the status bar with a simple right-click; and, with some VBA code, you can really get the summary statistics rolling by adding measures such as standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis.
