“How do I get better at data?” is a question I get a lot. It’s an interesting one to answer — plenty of great resources are out there, it’s just a matter of finding the right sequence for the right objective and circumstances. I assume “get better at data” in this case to mean using data to meet business objectives through common technologies like spreadsheets, databases, and programming languages.
To meet that objective, I’ve assembled “30 Days to Data Analyst,” a free checklist providing 30 resources and activities to perform across the web. Some days you’ll be on my blog, others you’ll visit others’ blogs, yet others you’ll be reading documentation, downloading software, and more.

By the end of the checklist, you will have a lay of the land of a data analyst’s career path, their roles and technologies used. A sample of the checklist follows. You’ll see that a variety of topics and activities are covered, just within the first few days.
This checklist assumes some basic knowledge of technology and computers. You should be able to navigate Excel workbooks and perform basic calculations, for example, along with installing programs from the internet.
Like technology itself, this checklist is subject to updating and refining. Please bookmark your link as it’s subject to change — apologies in advance for the inconvenience.
You’re also welcome to comment here with your favorite resources or topics for fledgling data analysts.
